Monica de Bath exhibition at Ballina Arts Centre

Throughout the month of September Ballina Arts Centre will host PLOT/CEAPACH, an exhibition of work by Monica de Bath, looking at man’s relationship with the landscape through specific examples of research she has completed on a number of bogland areas in Ireland. Monica de Bath’s work explores land use and people’s relationship with the land. The methods and ideas behind the act of mining and act of rehabilitation is the focus of PLOT/CEAPACH.

Monica has used two plots in her research for the work. Plot one is located in the ongoing peat production fields of the Irish midlands, while plot two is immersed in the rehabilitation of mined bog lands in Mayo.

These paintings and transplantation of sphagnum began with conversations on site visits with ecologists and with some of the remaining workers on industrially mined Irish peat lands. PLOT/CEAPACH will be officially opened on Friday, September 7 at 6pm, and will run until September 29.
