This week, on International Day Opposing Violence Against Women saw the start of a moving and thought-provoking exhibition, In Her Shoes, at the Ballina Family Resource Centre.
The exhibition was formally launched by Ballina Town Mayor Michelle Mulherin, who spoke of the injustice experienced by women and children every day in their own homes through domestic violence. She went on to highlight the need for each of us to raise awareness of domestic violence and to continue to campaign against this violation of human rights.
Mayor Mulherin went on to congratulate the staff and management of Ballina Family Resource Centre for bringing the exhibition to Ballina and highlighting the prevalence of violence against women, which is a global issue.
The exhibition is part of the 16 Days of Action Opposing Violence against Women which runs from Tuesday November 25 to Wednesday December 10. These dates symbolically link violence against women and human rights to show that such violence is a violation of a woman's human rights.
The In Her Shoes exhibition is open to the public from 9.30am to 1pm Monday to Friday in the Ballina Family Resource Centre, Pound Street, Ballina (beside the fire station ).
