Mayo boxing clubs receive more than €160,000 funding

Mayo boxing clubs are benefiting from some €160,000 worth of funding which was paid out under a special grant introduced to improve facilities and, in particular, facilities to accommodate female boxers.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has issued the details of the grants and the clubs to which they were awarded. The special allocation is being administered by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association.

The funding drawn down in Mayo is as follows Ardagh/Crossmolina Boxing Club, Ballina €16,700; Geesala Boxing Club, €25,000; Eagle Boxing Club, Westport, €25,000; Ardnaree Boxing Club, Ballina, €24,412; St Anne’s Boxing Club, Westport, €25,000; Ballyhaunis Boxing Club, €24,970; and Ballina Boxing Club, €24,743.

“I am delighted that this funding is being drawn down to improve facilities in our boxing clubs, in particular to improve facilities for our female boxers. Hopefully this will improve the chances of our future boxing stars,” concluded Minister Ring.
