A leading angling journalist from Britain visited County Mayo recently during a fact-finding trip to the west of Ireland.
Representing various publications – including British magazines Trout Fisherman and Sea Angler, and H20, an Italian fishing magazine which is circulated to fishing lodges and fisheries all over the world – Russell Symons was here as a guest of Tourism Ireland, to sample the variety and quality of angling available here, for articles he is writing about fishing breaks in Mayo and the west of Ireland. During his visit, he spent time fishing on Carrowmore Lake, Lough Furnace and Lough Beltra. He stayed at Hillcrest House B&B in Bangor Erris.
Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s head of Great Britain, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite journalist Russell Symons to come to Mayo and Ireland. He was really impressed by the quality of the angling on offer here, the wonderful scenery and the friendliness of the people he met. Visits by journalists such as this are extremely important, helping to spread the good news about Mayo and the island of Ireland. The articles he will write will be read by thousands of potential angling visitors in GB and other countries around the world.”
