An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny launched the first go-kart pedalathon in the west of Ireland last Saturday, August 4. On Saturday September 29 a relay of Mayo celebrities, sports persons, politicians, and others will take part in the first pedal go-kart pedalathon to be held in the west of Ireland. The event involves a sponsored go-kart pedal between Swinford and Castlebar in aid of Western Care Association.
The event on Saturday September 29 begins at the Connaught Gold Car Park in Swinford at 11am and will pass through Bohola at 12.30pm, then Ballyvary at 1.30pm before hitting Turlough village at 2pm, before it arrives Market Square, Castlebar, at around 2.45pm. Among those who have already agreed to take part are John O’Mahony TD, Dara Calleary TD, county manager Peter Hynes, Frank Forde, David Cawley, Eunice Moran, and Billy Fitzpatrick. An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, his schedule permitting, also hopes to take part on the day. More participants from among the general public will be very welcome and appreciated.
Participants will pedal a set part of the route on a number of BERG pedal go-karts sponsored by the local BERG retailer, Mayo Go-Karts of Turlough, Castlebar. Lines at €5 per line will be sold in the lead-up to the event and on the day itself for a raffle for the top two pedal go-karts to be used in the event, a BERG X-plorer XT3 valued at €819 and a BERG Extra AF Sport BF-3 valued at €709. The draw will take place at the presentation of proceeds to Western Care at the Turlough Inn, Turlough, Castlebar, on Friday October 12 at 10pm.
