The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI ) stated that 12 closure orders and one prohibition order were served on food businesses during the month of July – making last month one of the highest in 10 years for enforcement orders issued. Closure orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs ) Regulations, 2010 on New Jasmine House restaurant, Aiden Street, Kiltimagh, Mayo on July 17 2012. The order was lifted on July 20 2012.
Speaking about the orders, Prof Alan Reilly, chief executive, FSAI said that: “Food business operators must recognise that the legal onus is on them to be responsible and ensure that the food they serve is safe to eat. We are re-emphasising to all food businesses the need for rigorous compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. The FSAI and the inspectorate will not hold back in taking action against those food businesses that fail to comply with food safety legislation.”
