The work of an art graduate from County Mayo has been on display at the Best in Show exhibition in the Digital Hub in Dublin all this week.
Jessica Timlin from Castlebar is a graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design and, earlier this year, she was chosen by the Digital Hub to participate in its annual Best in Show exhibition.
Best in Show is an art exhibition with a difference. Rather than paintings and sculptures, it features digital media work produced by graduates of colleges throughout Ireland and the UK. The exhibits use sounds and images, gaming technologies, music, animation and advertising tools to depict topics ranging from the need for privacy to the golden age of silent cinema. All of the artists whose work is on display – including Jessica Timlin – have just recently made the transition from being students to exhibiting at a professional level.
Ms Timlin graduated from Limerick College of Art and Design in 2008, and is now based in Dublin. She works predominantly through the medium of video, but has also done some work in photography and performance art.
For the Best in Show exhibition, the Digital Hub chose a piece by Ms Timlin called Are Those My Footsteps?, which is a video and audio piece. It explores themes of paranoia and claustrophobia, and draws heavily on audio footage of footsteps and city noises, aided by the installation of a surround-sound system arranged around a double projection.
