Rossmore residents demand speed ramps

Residents of Rossmore in Castlebar have called on the local council to install speed ramps in their estate for fear that someone will be seriously injured or killed due to excessive speeding at the entrance to their estate.

The call came after a number of serious speeding incidents were reported to the local gardaí.

Labour councillor Harry Barrett has made it his mission to have the necessary ramps installed.

He told the Mayo Advertiser: “The residents of Rossmore estate, Castlebar, have done sterling work in recent years to have had the estate taken over by the council. However, speeding at the entrance of the estate is now an issue, and a number of incidents have been logged with an Garda Siochána. In particular, residents are very concerned about children playing on these approach roads.

“My role as a local councillor is to ensure that the ramps that the residents are asking for are a priority and that the issue will receive the attention that it deserves. The last thing we want to see is an injury or fatality in that estate as a result of excessive speeding.”
