Surfing fun for young and old with Surf Mayo

Young and old, families and friends, or individuals seeking one-on-one surfing tuition need look no further than Surf Mayo, based at Carrowniskey Strand in Louisburgh, where top class fun and tuition in surfing is now ongoing.

Interested parties need simply turn up at Carrowniskey and present themselves to the able team at Surf Mayo, who will kit them out with all they require to enjoy some great waves at this popular beach. If you happen to own your own wetsuit or surfboard but just require some tuition, no problem. Elvis, Aisling, Adam and all the gang at Surf Mayo are on hand every day to show you the correct moves to get gliding with your surfboard across the waves at Carrowniskey.

Lessons last two hours and cost just €20 a head per adult, €15 per child. Surf lessons are suitable for both swimmers and non-swimmers as participants need only reach waist level in the water to enjoy the continuing stream of soft waves flowing onshore.

All-weather surfing

While great weather cannot be guaranteed every day, the great thing about surfing is that it can be enjoyed just as much in the rain as in the sunshine. Because participants are clad in wetsuits from the off, they are protected from any cold from the sea or outside elements and so enjoy the full effect of surfing the waves.

Surf Mayo is also more than a summer venture as this business, established now for 15 years, operates all year round.

Great family day out

Surf Mayo offers the perfect day out for all the family to enjoy this summer and promises lots of exercise and activity for young and old. Running in and out of the water to catch as many good waves as possible makes for a great workout while attempts to achieve good surf technique through whipping your knees up on to the board and then upward to a standing position, certainly calls for some challenging moves.

Children’s surf camp

In addition to group sessions, there is also a kids’ summer surf camp, 10am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday throughout the summer holidays; €100 per child with all specialised equipment provided.

Surf Mayo shop

Surfing gear, boards and accessories can be purchased through the surf school on the beach at Carrownisky Strand or through Surf Mayo's retail outlet upstairs at Stauntons' on Bridge Street, Louisburgh.
