Ballina man disqualified for driving through garda checkpoint

A man who refused to obey a garda direction and drove on a road that was closed because of a traffic accident was fined €300 and disqualified from driving for one year at Ballina District Court.

Judge Mary Devins was told by Garda Rebecca Fearon that on June 19 last the road to Bonniconlon from Ballina was closed. Garda Fearon said Bernard Egan, 46 Tyrawley Terrace, Ballina drove towards her as she was operating a checkpoint. Garda Fearon said she told him that the road was closed and she advised him to take an alternative route. However, the defendant ignored her direction and proceeded to drive on the Bonniconlon road. Judge Devins was told that he had one previous road traffic conviction. She imposed a €300 fine and disqualified him from driving for one year.
