Plans for Culture Night 2012 well underway

Culture Night 2012 will take place on September 21 this year and plans are afoot to make the night an unforgettable cultural experience for Mayo audiences. Cultural organisations and groups are busily preparing varied programmes of activity for the evening. Mayo has been participating since 2009 and was Ireland’s first countywide Culture Night programme.

In the past six years Culture Night has become a national phenomenon. The ethos of the event is access to free cultural events for all, and participating venues nationwide will extend opening hours, organise events which are free of charge and open to the public.

The event in Mayo has been extremely well received both by participating venues and audiences. This year Mayo is hoping to build on the success of last year’s event with an increase in the number of cultural organisations and by continuing to provide an evening of high quality and interesting events for Mayo people to attend and enjoy. Regardless of where you are in the county there will be a Culture Night event taking place nearby with events this year planned for Erris, Achill, Ballina, Ballycastle, Laherdane, Claremorris, Castlebar, Ballinrobe, Tourmakeady, Westport, Newport, Charlestown and Turlough.

More details on Mayo Culture Night will be available over the coming weeks and a programme of events will be available from the Arts Office early in August. For further information please contact Ann Marie McGing at Mayo Arts Office on 094- 904 7558 or by email [email protected].
