Increased demand on two train services between Dublin and Westport has led to the announcement that additional carriages will be supplied.
Iarnród Éireann announced last week that there will be an additional three carriages on both the Heuston to Westport 12.30pm train and the Westport to Heuston 1.15pm train due to the increased demand. Both trains will now increase to six carriage trains with 380 seats.
Iarnród Éireann has noted an increase in demand during the summer months leading to this decision. A spokesperson for the company said: “We have provided this additional capacity in response to customer demand. All Westport services are bookable online with fares starting at as little as €14.99 one way if booked three days in advance. Booking online offers the best value for money and guarantees a seat for your journey.”
All Westport services now have free WiFi onboard enabling customers to surf the web free of charge for business or leisure purposes while on their journey.
And while this is good news for Mayo rail users a campaign was launched this week by people with a visual impairment and their supporters who will send hundreds of texts to the Irish Rail press officer announcing that they are not happy with the persistent poor quality or lack of audible announcements on Irish trains. This action will take place on Monday July 23 at 9.30am.
