Ballina Hospital to get hospice suite

Ballina District Hospital with the support of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice and the HSE is to benefit from the development of a two-bed hospice suite.

The suite will provide enhanced care for the terminally ill and offer suitable facilities to patients for family and friends. The hospice is part of a €500,000 investment and has been welcomed locally by Deputy Michelle Mulherin.

According to Dep Mulherin Mayo/Roscommon Hospice will be making a significant contribution towards the development of the hospice suite at St Joseph's Hospital while the HSE will fund alterations in the female ward which will include fire improvements, better natural light and an increase in WC and shower facilities.

Planning applications have already been submitted to Ballina Town Council and this process should be finalised by September when the work can go to tender.
