Deere calls for site for carnivals and circus in Castlebar

Fine Gael Town Cllr Ger Deere had placed a motion before the July meeting of Castlebar Town Council calling on the council to find a permanent site that can be used in the town for circus’ and carnivals and other such events.

The meeting of the local authority was scheduled to take place yesterday evening (Thursday, July 11 ) after this newspaper went to print.

He stated earlier this week that in recent years the issue of finding suitable sites for such events has become a huge problem for organisers and the public and it is time the council assisted in locating a safe suitable area.

Cllr Deere said that these such events have been part of Ireland for decades and should continue but if the providers of theses events don't have a suitable site in the town they wont be attracted any more to the town which would be a shame.

He went on to say that “since the Fair Green was sold over twenty years ago there has been no suitable site for such events but I feel now with the council having purchased the Military Barracks this could be an ideal site to use.”
