The Westport Music Festival is back for its seventh year to brighten up the summer with a weekend full of family entertainment on Friday, July 27, and Saturday, July 28. Main performances over the weekend will be from The Saw Doctors on the Friday night and The Beatlez on Saturday evening. The venue for the festival remains the same with the massive state-of-the-art stage taking up residence in the Carrowbeg River once again, a aplendid feature for the bands and public alike. Over the last six years the Westport Music Festival has become one of the most popular and well attended festivals in the west of Ireland and guarantees to have something to suit all age groups.
The Saw Doctors, renowned for their live performances, will take to the Westport stage with all our favourites. Their first number one, ‘I Useta Lover’ topped the Irish charts for nine consecutive weeks in 1990 and held the record for the country's all-time biggest-selling single. Since they formed they have achieved 19 top-30 singles in Ireland, including three number ones. After a 17 year break between number ones, the band returned to the top of the charts in October 2008 with a cover of the Sugababes ‘About You Now’, proving that after more than 20 years they are still one of Ireland's most popular rock acts.
Saturday night will see The Beatlez, the UK’s finest Beatles tribute act take to the stage. They emulate the Beatles’ years with striking accuracy: From the early rock ‘n’ roll days at The Cavern and “Beatlemania”, through Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Pepper albums and onto the legendary rooftop performance of ‘Come Together’ and ‘Get Back’.
In addition to the nightly entertainment, The Cove Youth Cafe will host its annual Westport's Got Talent contest which is open to under 18s on Saturday, July 28, between 2pm and 5pm. Further details on how to participate can be found on the festival website, www.westportmusicfestival.com or on the Facebook page Westport MusicFestival.
