Members of Claremorris Area committee have given the go-ahead to the new Ballinrobe and Ballyhaunis local area plans. The new plan has seen no land dezoned, but organised into different phases. The first phase will take in all unfinished estates and existing planning permissions. When 70 per cent of that has been completed, phase two lands will be open for applications.
Cllr Damien Ryan had asked that the wording of the plan be altered slightly, so that in very special circumstances the councillors could lobby the council executive to consider opening up an area that was zoned as phase two for planning permission. At the meeting on Wednesday last, Director of services Seamus Granahan agreed to put in a clause that has been inserted in other plans where in exceptional circumstances consideration can be given to phase two lands, if lands in phase one are not able to support the kind of development that is being planned.
