Permanent director of nursing appointed to St Augustine's, Ballina — Mulherin

The HSE has confirmed to Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin that a permanent director of nursing is to be appointed to St Augustine's Community Nursing Home, Ballina, from July 2. This will see the current temporary acting director of nursing, Marie Hennigan, made permanent.

Deputy Mulherin stated: “This is excellent news for the security of the future of St Augustine’s. The pressure community nursing homes around the country are under owing to the moratorium on recruitment, early retirements, and budget cuts within the HSE is well known.

“This news together with the recent confirmation that St Augustine’s has passed the stringent HIQA test and is certified for the next three years is very welcome and is a relief.

“I was delighted to be in a position to pursue this matter with the HSE and the Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly, to a successful conclusion.

“I want to wish Marie Hennigan well for her tenure in St Augustine’s and compliment the previous director of nursing, Eileen O'Brien, who retired in March, for her service and commitment.”
