The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, has approved funding of €30,000 for 12 community groups to support a public awareness initiative to promote October 17 as the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
In Mayo, Moy Valley Resources IRD, Ballina is to receive €2,200 in funding, and €2,600 of funding is to be given to Mayo Intercultural Action, Castlebar.
The Annual United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is a day to express friendship and solidarity with people who have to live with poverty and social exclusion every day of the year, in Ireland, Europe, and around the world.
