A man was arrested for drink driving after he went back to the scene of a crashed car and a tractor in order to rescue the car from a ditch.
On October 9 2011 at 5.55am, gardaí received a report of a single vehicle traffic accident at Corrower, Attymass, Ballina.
A car was crashed into a ditch. While gardaí were at the scene, Edward Smith, Quignashee, Ballina, arrived in a tractor. He admitted to gardaí that he crashed the car shortly before he returned. Gardaí noticed that he was drunk. He was arrested for drink driving and a blood sample provided at the Garda station gave a reading of 130mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
The 22-year-old, who has five previous convictions, intends to emigrate to America in August.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €500 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
