Driving disqualification for Bonniconlon man

A man from Bonniconlon was convicted of drink driving at Tuesday’s sitting of Ballina District Court.

At a court sitting in April it was outlined that Garda Michael Mullaney was on duty in the Bonniconlon West area on July 15 2011, at 10.12pm, when he observed a van exit from a pub car park. On the main road the vehicle was observed to veer onto the incorrect side of the road and it crossed over onto the wrong side of the road while the driver took a left bend. The driver, Anthony Irwin, Knockroe, Bonniconlon, was stopped and he failed a roadside breath test.

At Ballina Garda Station the defendant provided a breath specimen which gave a reading of 51mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The man who has retired from the building trade has no previous convictions.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €400 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
