Community organisations in Mayo to drive Reach Out and Switch Over

Community and voluntary organisations in Mayo are holding events to encourage people to make the switch to digital TV as part of the Reach Out and Switch Over week from June 25 to July 1. They are providing information and advice to people on how they can switch to a digital TV service before the analogue signal is turned off on October 24.

Anyone who is still using an aerial to receive a television signal will have to take action before this date to continue receiving TV broadcasts.

The main events during Reach Out and Switch Over week in Mayo include information days on June 26 at 2pm in the Fr Peyton CSC Memorial, Attymass; between 10am and 5pm on June 27 at Kilmaine Community Centre; and on June 29 from 11am to 12 noon at Achill Sound Hotel.

Local community and voluntary groups, clubs, and associations are encouraged to get involved by distributing information and hosting their own information events. Caroline Wilson, the digital outreach champion for Mayo, is coordinating these efforts. “We all know someone who may be unaware of the switchover, or uncertain about what to do; it could be an elderly relative, a neighbour living on their own or a family living in an isolated rural area,” she said. “We are asking the public and local groups to reach out and help inform these people of their options. Let’s make sure that no one in Mayo is left behind on 24 October.”

Information on digital switchover is available at 1890 940 980 or online at www.goingdigital.ie Local groups, clubs and associations can contact Caroline Wilson on 086 289 9296 or [email protected].
