HIQA decisions for Belmullet and Achill nursing units are welcomed

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring has welcomed the HIQA decision that the registrations of Áras Deirbhle, Belmullet (37 beds ) and St Fionnan’s Community Nursing Unit, Achill (32 ) will be completed before the end of June.

“Both of those units had been engaged with HIQA in order to meet all the terms and conditions required to achieve registration of the units. This means that a clean bill of health has been given to both units, and secondly that the registration will be for a full period of three years from July 1 and that HIQA will not be examining these units for another three years.”

Minister Ring said: “I wish to compliment the staff in Áras Deirbhle and in St Fionnan’s for the excellent work that they do and the care that they give to their residents. The quality care given is proven by the HIQA Registration and the high standards that they demand.”

Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin has also welcomed the news. Deputy Mulherin said: “I would also like to compliment our local HSE West staff with whom I work closely to ensure that services in St Augustine's and other public health facilities continue and provide vital services in the straitened circumstances that we find ourselves in.”
