The Taoiseach has praised the work being carried out across the country by the nationwide suicide prevention and bereavement service, Console. He was speaking following the official opening of the organisation’s new outreach centre in Midfield on Monday June 11.
Services will initially be available at the centre one day per week and it is hoped that it will serve as an information hub providing support and information for the community.
The Taoiseach said: “I strongly commend the hugely important work that Ann Lynch is heading up here in Midfield and indeed the wonderful work carried out by all of the Console counsellors and volunteers across the country. I hope and expect the new centre in Midfield will be a refuge for all those in need of help, support or a listening ear.
“There is hardly an individual in this country that has not been affected to some degree by the blight of suicide and the impact it can potentially have on entire families and communities is immense. Organisations such as Console work tirelessly to support and assist those who find themselves affected in this way but also, and critically, to try to prevent the spread of suicide. We, as a society, are truly indebted to them for their efforts.”
