The mayor of Castlebar, Cllr Eugene McCormack has welcomed the announcement of a further grant of €725,000 for the extension of the Greenway from Castlebar to Turlough.
He said the funding, under the National Cycle Network will continue the stated aspiration of Mayo County Council to make Mayo the walking and cycling capital of Ireland and will be another piece in the plan to have an integrated route throughout the county. “The success of the Westport to Achill Greenway has been an inspiration and the decision to build on this is testament to the commitment to make the vision a reality”, Cllr McCormack stated, commending the Taoiseach, Minister Ring and Mayo County Council for securing the funding for the project.
