The monthly winners of the Mayo League awards for May were announced this week. And unsurprisingly, Westport United were the big winners of three awards, including club of the month. The Covies picked up their first Connacht Junior Cup in 25 years during May with a historic win over Athenry 4-2 on penalties. They have also had a 100 per cent start in the Elverys Sports Super League this year and have 18 points from their first six games and are currently well out in front of the pack.
Westport United’s joint managment team of Kieran Mulchrone and James Fahy were given the award for manager of the month while Danny Scahill the Super League Player of the month. Ballyheane’s Chris Maughan got the Premier A player of the month, with Matthew Hamilton from Ballyglass the Premier B award, Ballyhaunis Town’s Conor Freeley was the League One winner, and Daniel Moyles from Hollister picking up the League Two award.
The Mayo League’s Master’s side went down in the semi-final of the John Sherlock Memorial Cup last weekend to the Sligo/Leitrim District League by a scoreline of 2-0 in Sherlock Park.
