Summer is here! Along with the summer come the many festivals that will take place around the country. One in particular that people might view as something unusual is the Knock Summer Festival.
This festival is different to others around the country because instead of rock bands it hosts Christian bands, instead of comedians or main acts it sees talks from bishops, priests and lay people; instead of a beer or bar tent it will have the chill out marquee where people can sit with a tea or coffee and chat. One thing that is similar to the other festivals out there is the age group, the production set up and the atmosphere. The Knock Summer Festival is for all people between the ages of 17-30, and is a chance for young Catholics to come away for a day to celebrate, explore and ignite their faith, in a setting where it is ok, ‘normal’ even to be a young Catholic and be proud of that.
Last year the Knock Summer Festival saw 500 young people come together for three days at Knock Shrine and take part in this festival. This year the festival is a one day only event and organisers are expecting up to 1,000 young people to come and join them. The festival is taking place on Saturday, July 28 and participants are encouraged to stay in the west and take part in the climb of Croagh Patrick on ‘Reek Sunday’.
