€157,000 worth of funding awarded to Mayo under Childcare Capital Programme

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring has warmly welcomed the announcement of Pobal funding to a number of childcare providers in Mayo under the Childcare Capital Programme 2012.

Locally the following allocations have been made; Naíonra agus Iar Scoil Naomh Sheosaimh- €25,000; Roundfort Creative Kids - €16,000; Killeen Childcare Limited- €4,800;

Claremount Crèche - €24,500; Curious Minds - €24,800; Bualadh Bos- €7,800; Barney’s Playgroup- €30,495 and Susan’s Little Scholars- €24,000.

“I am extremely pleased that this level of funding has been provided to the childcare providers. I hope it will be of immense help to these providers and will ensure their continuance in to the distant future”, stated Minister Ring.

The minister concluded: “I am aware that there will be some disappointment where funding has not been provided. I understand that applications in the amount of €62m were applied for and unfortunately, due to economic conditions, there is only €6 million available for allocation. However, hopefully, this scheme will be available again in the future.”

Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin, also welcomed the announcement: “I am delighted for the successful applicants and I know that the grants will be put to good use. I have been working closely with many of the childcare services in Mayo and am well aware of their professionalism and dedication. I would like to congratulate the successful pre-schools.”
