Last week at Dangan in the fifth race he had a fine win in 16:49. Likewise Colette Tuohy, who finished first in Dangan in 18.40.

Westport triathlon at the end of the month

On Saturday, June 23 Westport will host a triathlon that is sure to test the endurance and stamina of some of the top athletes in the country. The Westport Triathlon takes in all the sights of the town and surrounding scenic coast. The race begins with a 750m swim at the pier in Westport and then cyclists will follow a very picturesque out and back route along the coast road, past Murrisk and out as far as Bertra where it returns back to Westport quay. Much of the return cycle route will be on the cycle path back in to Westport. The race will then finish with the 5km run featuring the Greenway cycle path as well as harbour sights. The sport of Triathlon is rapidly growing in Ireland and is no longer deemed to be for just the elite or superfit athletes. Westport Triathlon Club encourages newbies into the sport and believes that this race is a perfect introduction for those wanting to “dip their toes” into a multi-discipline sport, as well as experienced triathletes. There will be post race food and prize giving at the Atlantic Coast Hotel at Westport Harbour. The race is formally sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland (National Governing Body of Triathlon ). See www.westporttriclub.ie for more details.
