“The Ten Cross Painters” is the title of an inaugural exhibition of paintings in Cong Art Gallery. The exhibition which runs from Saturday June 16 until Saturday June 30, and the official opening will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday June 16 in the gallery. The Ten Cross Painters is the name of a group that meets in John Dinan’s studio in Cross once a month. “To learn and continue learning, and each fulfil a lifetime dream of becoming skilled, imaginative artists, enjoying every moment while striving to work at their full potential,” according to Dinan. Two of the artists are Mayo residents, Noelle Angley from Westport and Louise Conroy form Cong. Cong Art Gallery opens from 11am to 5pm every day during the exhibition including Sundays.
Two Mayo artists feature in this exhibition:
Noelle Angley, a Westport resident, works in Castlebar. Like many architects, Noelle has since childhood always loved drawing and painting. On taking that more ‘sensible’ career option of architecture at the age of 17, she promised herself she would one day return one to her true artistic vocation of painting.
That ‘one day’ came two years ago and now Noelle enjoys painting both 'en plein air' and in her studio, aiming to enjoy and capture the beauty what life has to offer from our fabulous countryside to the most ordinary everyday objects. Her architectural background also has inspired her to add human life and activity to plan views of gardens, interiors and the suburban and rural landscapes, as if she was bird in the sky looking down or the 'google earth' camera in space.
Louise Conroy from Cong is an art teacher in Balla Secondary School by day and an aspiring painter by night.
Louise studied glass, craft and education in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin but has found herself being constantly drawn to the medium of paint.
With the help of John Dinan, the Ten Cross Painters and the amazing Mayo landscape, she has developed from someone who dabbles in paint to someone who has begun to seriously explore painting and most importantly to believe in and exploit her own talents.
The other Ten Cross Painters are: Ken Ridgeway (Dublin ), Andrew Bowen (Bray ), Carole Cullen ( Dublin ), David Fitzgerald (Dublin ), Elaine Howard (Sligo ), Fionnuala Breslin (Belfast ), Breda Ryan (Dublin ), and Joe McCaul (Galway ).
The paintings reflect the varying interests of these ten different painters with one common leap of faith to ‘fulfill the dream’.
This exhibition features landscapes, still lifes, lighthouses, townscapes, landscapes, and portraits in a variety of colours, styles and energy.
