A week of fun and festivities await at Ballina Salmon Festival

Ballina Salmon Festival promises a week of fantastic entertainment for young and old alike, whether you are in the locality or are planning a break by the River Moy. It’s A Knockout kicks off the second half of the fun filled week on Thursday, July 12. This event promises to be jam-packed with exciting challenges with something appealing to everybody. Enter a team of five and compete against the clock and each other for an array of prizes. It is sponsored by Tesco and Paddy Jordan’s Bar and Restaurant.

O’Rahilly Street is the place to be on Friday, July 13 at the Supermac’s sponsored Krazy Kart Race. It is a must for all auto amateurs and adrenaline junkies. With points going for speed, creativity, and showmanship, you are in for quite a ride. But the excitement does not end there, get ready to Go Bananas in Abbey Street. Lots of games, craic and competitions for all the family. Music on the night is provided by the Ballina band Gorilla Radio who kick off at 9pm.

Saturday July 14 is the event you have all been waiting for. The spectacular fireworks display, sponsored by Ballina Beverages, will be the grand finale to a night packed with entertainment for all ages. Before St Muredach’s Church comes alive with colour, you can expect a great show from local artist Gerry Guthrie and his band who will play from 9pm till 11pm at the post office. So as to cater for all tastes, along the banks of the River Moy in Emmett Street, prepare to be rocked by the Underground Saints who will play from 10pm till 12pm.

Although the breathtaking fireworks display is billed as the grand finale, it is not over yet as Tom Ruane Park comes alive with the hustle and bustle of the Teddy Bear’s Picnic on Sunday July 15, sponsored by Rocket Pyrotechics, Ballina Beverages, and Dunnes Stores. This special day of fun starts at 2pm with bouncy castles, puppets, children’s favourite characters, dancers and much more. So go along and join in the fun. For those feeling inventive, skip over to the raft race on the River Moy at 3pm. Get together with your buddies and beg, borrow or build a raft to be in with a chance to win the John Hogan Trophy. Entry costs €50 a team, a minimum of four.
