Mayo Sinn Féin councillor Rose Conway-Walsh was elected to the Party’s Ard Chomhairle, National Executive at the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis over last weekend.
Speaking after chairing the live section of the Ard Fheis on Saturday Cllr Conway-Walsh said: “I thank delegates for placing their confidence in me and voting for me. I will be a strong voice for rural Ireland. It will give me an opportunity to bring the many concerns of constituents in Mayo to the national table on a regular basis. I take my leadership role on the Ard Chomhairle very seriously and will use it wisely to address issues such as access to health services, changes to rural schools and school transport, ownership of our natural resources, the impact on rural communities of privatization, cuts to farm families, and unemployment.
“This is an exciting time to be part of the leadership of a progressive political party like Sinn Féin which is holding the Government to account and providing opposition in the Dail. The latest Ipsos MRBI Poll is good news for Sinn Fein showing the party at 24 per cent only eight points behind Fine Gael and more than double the Labour support.”
