O’Mahony welcomes €154,000 for Curam Family & Social Centre Claremorris

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has welcomed the announcement by Phil Hogan, Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, that he has given sanction for South West Mayo Development Company Limited to approve funding of €154,788.71 to Claremorris Social & Family Centre Ltd (Cúram ) for the construction of a 1,400sq ft extension to its facility. The extension will include a counselling room, family support room, office interview rooms, reception, and toilet facilities at the Curam Family & Social Centre Building, Claremorris, under the Basic Services for the Economy and Rural Population measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

“I’m really delighted for Dorothy Campbell and her staff and Sr Juliet who has been with the centre since it started in 1989. I am acutely aware of all the good work that they do in and around Claremorris. I have met with them and I have actively canvassed the Minister to assist them with their work.

“Cúram is a charity which has been delivering services and supports to the local community since it was established in 1989. They have developed much needed services for marginalised people in Claremorris and its hinterland. In the present economic climate they are experiencing increasing demand for their services. The proposed development, with its total project costs of €206,384.95, will allow Cúram to expand delivery of their existing services and develop new services.”

Deputy O’Mahony added: “The project will now go back to the board of South West Mayo Development Company Limited for the final approval on the project. This is in line with the EU’s ‘bottom-up’ approach to rural development.”
