Catherine Wiley, a grandmother from Mayo, has addressed the World Family Congress in Milan this May, asking: “Will our grandchildren be Catholics?”
Ms Wiley founded the Catholic Grandparents Association in 2002 to give recognition to the vital role grandparents play in children’s lives. In recent years, the association has spread rapidly across the world. It now hosts events in counties as diverse as England, Australia, Tanzania, Scotland, the United States, Cambodia, and Nigeria.
Ms Wiley says that she was honoured to have addressed the seventh World Meeting of Families: “I feel my speaking at this conference marks the coming of age of the Catholic Grandparents Association. It is deeply moving that those at the highest levels of the Church now recognise the importance of grandparents in this day and age.”
