The weather conditions over the next few days in the west and northwest will favour the spread of potato blight on young developing potato stalks, according to Paraic Horkan from Horkan’s Lifestyle and Garden Centres.
The mild, warm, humid weather allows the spores to spread rapidly on to the young potato stalks, which can badly affect the growth and developing potatoes.
Potato blight can also spread onto tomato plants and cause similar damage.
Paraic advises that people with potatoes or young tomato plants treat their plants thoroughly with a potato blight spray including Diathine or Promoxamil ( PRO – MOX –A – MILL ) to prevent that attack of potato and tomato blight.
