Sinn Féin Ard Fheis this weekend

The economy, Irish unity, and the fiscal treaty will top the agenda at the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis in Killarney this weekend.

Cllr Rose Conway-Walsh who will chair the debates on Saturday morning, said: “Sinn Féin members from throughout Mayo will travel to the INEC in Killarney this weekend to attend the Ard Fheis which starts this Friday evening and carries on throughout Saturday. Over the weekend 1,500 delegates will debate almost 200 motions on a wide range of topics including jobs and growth, Irish unity, protecting essential services and difficulties facing communities across rural Ireland and the fiscal treaty.

“RTE 1 will cover the debates live from 11.00am on Saturday morning and Gerry Adams will make his Presidential Address at 5.30pm.

“Issues affecting people throughout Mayo including, unemployment, farming cutbacks, closure of hospital beds, rural schools, natural resources, water charges, septic tank regulation and the Belmullet and Newport Sewerage Schemes will all be discussed.

“A number of guests will address the Ard Fheis including the head of UNITE Jimmy Kelly, a former worker from Vita Cortex, representatives from ANC, Palestine and the Basque Country and Terry O’Sullivan, President of the Labourers’ International Union of North America.”

Cllr Conway Walsh added: “More people than ever are responding positively to Sinn Féin’s message of the need to reject austerity and stimulate the economy and create jobs and growth. This Ard Fheis provides Sinn Féin with an opportunity to promote our message that there is hope, there is a political alternative and there is a way out of the economic crisis.”
