Last weekend’s competition, which was sponsored by Ted and Marion Gormally, Hennelly’s Bar, Manulla, was won by PJ Brett with a score of 50pts. His scoring on the back nine kept him in front of Dick Heraty who also finished on 50pts. The gross prize went to Danny Roache with Kenneth Lynskey coming home in third place.
The ladies’ competition was won by Breda Cleary, with Mary Conlon coming just behind her in second place. Carmel Costello claimed the gross prize and Mary B Prendergast took third place. John Walsh managed to hit a hole-in-one on the 17th hole. A presentation of prizes will take place in Hennelly’s Bar, Manulla tomorrow (Saturday ).
Ballina
In the ladies’ competitions last week, Mary Caulfield took first place in the Thursday competition on 38pts, Clare Cooke came second on 37pts, with Siobhan Leonard finishing in third place. Catherine Egan scored 26pts to win the Sunday competition, Shauna Smith finished in second place, with Helen Gallagher finishing in third.
Ballinrobe
In the open Friday competition last week, Blaine Lynch was the winner of the gents’ section. He finished in front of Sean Mulryan in second place, with Aaron D’Arcy taking the gross prize and Steven Conroy third place. The ladies’ open day competition was won by Pat McDermott. The weekend competition was won by Gabriel Coppinger on 43pts, Gary Brett came second on 39pts, with Blaine Lynch winning the gross prize and Noel Corbett taking third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Rose Dooley who scored 40pts, Shannon Burke took the Cat 1 win, Cat 2 went to Louise Cribben, and Mary Nalty took the Cat 3 win.
Claremorris
Pat Hession was the winner of the Golfstyle sponsored competition in Claremorris last weekend with a score of 68 nett. Pat Burke came home in second place on 69 nett, with Fergal Hughes finishing in third place on 71 nett, and James Prendergast won the gross prize.
The ladies’ competition was won by Angela Prenty on 75 nett, with Pat Hunt coming home in second place.
Nottingham Irish Golf Society
The Nottingham Irish Golf Society recently donated €40,000 to Mayo General Hospital to purchase three new renal dialysis machines. These funds were raised at an annual golf fundraiser in memory of Padraic Sweeney, a native of Mayo and popular member of the Nottingham Irish Golf Society who died of kidney disease just before his 45th birthday. The Nottingham Irish Golf Society runs an annual golf tour to Ireland and during a recent visit to Mayo the society made the presentation to Mayo General Hospital.
On a previous golfing trip to Mayo, Padraic was unable to avail of dialysis in Mayo and had to travel to Galway to be dialysed. Subsequently the society contacted the hospital and offered to fund dialysis machines in order to ensure that patients with kidney disease visiting Mayo could have access to dialysis locally.
