British camping and caravan enthusiasts to read all about Mayo

More than 250,000 camping and caravanning enthusiasts around Great Britain will read all about holidays in Mayo and the west of Ireland later this year in the popular Camping & Caravanning magazine.

Journalist Barry Norris – who is also vice chairman of the influential UK Caravan Writers’ Guild – arrived in Mayo and the west of Ireland last week, as a guest of the Irish Caravan and Camping Council and Tourism Ireland. Mr Norris was in Mayo researching an article for Camping & Caravanning magazine. He travelled to Ireland by ferry from Holyhead, bringing his own motorhome and bicycle, to experience for himself some of the many things to see and do in Mayo and the west of Ireland and, in particular, to sample what this part of Ireland has to offer the GB camping and caravan holidaymaker.

Camping & Caravanning magazine is the membership magazine of the Camping and Caravanning Club in Britain and is published monthly, reaching an estimated 256,321 readers. During his time here, Barry Norris stayed two nights in Cong Caravan and Camping Park and four nights in Westport House Caravan and Camping Park – giving him ample time to explore the locality, including some of the county’s key attractions like Westport House and Croagh Patrick. He also cycled along the Great Western Greenway, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s head of Great Britain, said: “Tourism Ireland has a very strong promotional programme in place right now in Britain, which includes co-operative activity with our key ferry operator partners, encouraging visitors from GB to bring their own cars, caravans and motorhomes. We are emphasising ease of access and the convenience of ferry travel for holidaymakers. We know that visitors who bring their own cars or motorhomes stay longer and tour the regions of Ireland more extensively. Camping and caravanning has become increasingly popular with British holidaymakers, as it is considered good value for money, ideal for families and an excellent way to discover the ‘great outdoors’.”
