Lots of action over bank holiday weekend in clubs

Balla

John O’Connor was the winner of the men’s competition with a score of 38pts last weekend. Bob Leggett came second just one point further behind, with Don Dillon taking third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Mary B O’Donnell who scored 39pts, with Geraldine O’Malley coming home second and Margaret Ralph finishing in third place. The junior prize was won by Catherine Walsh. The draw for the O’Brien Cup and Broderick Cup has taken place and has been posted on the noticeboard.

Ballinrobe

Geoffrey Sheridan was the winner of the Healy’s Topaz and Spar Ballinrobe, sponsored competition last Sunday with a score of 41pts. Len Jones finished second with Ciaran Cyran third and Michael C Burke winning the gross. The Sunday ladies’ competition, sponsored by Ryders Pharmacy, was won by Eileen Comer with a score of 38pts with Concepta D’Arcy winning the category one competition and Helen Davis picking up the category two win.

On bank holiday Monday, John Hudson held off the challenge of Eddie Hackett and Brian Philips in second and third to win the Ballinrobe Golf Club sponsored competition. The ladies’ event which was sponsored by Burke’s bar and restaurant was won by Catherine O’Toole.

Castlebar

Val Jennings was the winner of the McDermott’s Furnishings competition over the weekend with a score of 44pts. Second place went to Seamus Flynn, and Peter Ford came home in third place. The gross prize was claimed by Kieran Horkan with Ryan O’Malley winning the best junior.

Patricia McDermott with a score of 65 nett was the winner of the McDermott’s Furnishings Golfer of the Year competition at the weekend. Joan Harney came home in second place and Mary Glynn was third, with Connie White taking the gross win.

Paddy Burke’s Oireachtas Prize was played last Friday at Castlebar Golf Club where members of the Oireachtas were joined by club members for a very enjoyable day’s golf. Castlebar Golf Club are very grateful to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny for the presentation he made to the club on the night.

On Thursday May 17 the Castlebar Lions Club Am Am event will take place, a time-sheet will be in operation from 11am to 3pm, it costs €80 to enter a team of four and for more information contact John Kelly on 087 2471595.
