The Answer have just confirmed an intimate show at Castlebar’s new independent music venue, The Clubhouse, this summer on Saturday, August 25. The Answer were formed in 2000 by guitarist Paul Mahon, whose father was a jazz trumpeter and member of seminal Irish showband The Freshmen who released three albums on CBS and toured with the likes of the Beach Boys. Aged 18, Mahon knew he wanted to put together a rock band and mentioned it to bassist Micky Waters, an old school friend who had been in numerous cover bands around Belfast.
James Heatley, who had played as Ash’s stand-in live drummer in 1993, was recruited to be the drummer for The Answer. Mahon called him up only to find that he was about to take his finals at university, so the trio waited while Heatley completed his degree in Psychology.
In late June 2000, the four of them got together for their debut rehearsal. 2001 was spent writing, rehearsing, gigging locally and building up a set for The Answer.
In 2005, Classic Rock magazine voted The Answer Best New Band 2005 which brought them even more exposure.
Their debut album Rise was released on June 26 2006. The album received rave reviews and was nominated for Classic Rock magazine's Album Of The Year and Best British Newcomer in the 2006 Kerrang! awards. In 2007 they supported The Rolling Stones and The Who in Europe, while in 2008 they kicked off a 118-night tour supporting rock legends AC/DC all over the world.
In the years in between they have gone from strength to strength and the band have just released their brand new album, Revival, and will be bringing some much anticipated rock ‘n’ roll to The Clubhouse in Castlebar this summer. For booking info please call Downtown Records on (094 ) 9022312.
