Glenmore NS to retain second teacher - Mulherin

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Deputy Michelle Mulherin, has confirmed that Glenmore National School, Crossmolina, is to get a second teacher following a successful appeal to the Department of Education. It is currently a one teacher school.

Deputy Mulherin said: “I am delighted to confirm that Glenmore NS will retain its second teacher during the school year starting in September 2012. Since the change to the pupil/teacher ratio was announced in Budget 2012, there were fears in the community that the school would not qualify for a second teacher. This school serves a thriving and growing rural community and the parents, board of management and school principal campaigned hard to prevent this change being implemented and I want to compliment them for their efforts.

“I engaged with the principal and affected families and I made a strong case for the school to be given a second teacher to the Minister for Education, Ruairi Quinn, and have been in regular contact with him on this issue and at a meeting he confirmed that a second teacher would be put in place in September. I am delighted with this outcome.”
