Did you know that you could learn how to save a life in just two hours? Some day that life could be a family member, friend, or neighbour.
Local heart and stroke charity Croí, in association with Mayo PCCC HSE West is inviting members of the public to a two-hour evening course on how to respond to a cardiac, choking, or stroke emergency, which will take place on Thursday May 10 next in the Downhill House Hotel, Ballina, Co Mayo from 6pm to 8.30pm.
This CPR training course is one of the first initiatives to take place during the month of May as part of the Mayo Healthy Living Month launched this week by Croí and Mayo PCCC. To book your place, call Alma (before Friday May 4 ) on 091 893506 or visit www.croi.ie/cpr-events A nominal contribution of €10 per person applies when booking.
The lifesaving skill of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation ) is an easily learned rescue technique for someone whose heart and/or breathing has stopped. Research shows that the majority of sudden cardiac deaths are witnessed by a family member or a friend, but not enough people have learned CPR, a skill which could literally mean the difference between life or death.
Announcing details of the upcoming opportunity to learn CPR, the co-ordinator of the Croí Centre for Lifesaving Training, nurse Catherine Sheridan, said: “I would encourage as many people as possible to avail of this opportunity to learn CPR. The training course only requires a two-hour commitment but the skills acquired will last a lifetime.” She added: “CPR training is a lifesaving skill which should be learned by everyone, particularly those who have a history of heart conditions in their families.”
Places are limited and will be offered on a first come, first served, basis but must be booked and paid for in advance. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to attend. To find out more and secure your place call Alma on 091 893506.
