Former GAA president launches Gaelcholáiste Chomáin book

The Coláiste Chomáin commemorative book, Ceiliúradh Oideachais i gColáiste Chomáin, has been launched by former GAA president Dr Mickey Loftus. Twenty miles north of Belmullet, Gaelcholáiste Chomáin was established by Gael Linn as a secondary school in 1959.

TY students from Gaelcholáiste Chomáin have spent the last six months researching student life and secondary education in the small rural village of Rossport and their 100 page publication is full of folklore, heritage, and history.

Dr Loftus said: “This book is a very professional publication and I am sure it will be treasured and cherished in years to come.”

Gaelcholáiste Chomáin principal Jason Ó Mongáin said the publication was a community effort with every strand of the parish supporting the students’ initiative. “Gaelcholáiste Chomáin has an amazing history and this book outlines the educational legacy of so many people from this region over the years. There are wonderful contributions from past principals and students and the archive photographs that the students unearthed will rekindle many happy memories for those associated with the school over the years.

“I would like to congratulate the students and their teacher Áine Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh for their commitment and dedication to this project.”
