Two Castlebar women who stole money from a salon in Castlebar were both sentenced to jail at this week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court.
On June 8 2011 a report was made to gardaí from the owner of Blanka Beauty Studio in Castlebar that €310 was taken from the till by Tina McDonagh, 2 Castlegrove, Castlebar, and Ann McDonagh, 27 Castlegrove, Castlebar. CCTV showed the two women take the money and both women admitted their involvement to gardaí.
Ann McDonagh, a pregnant mother of two, has five previous convictions. The other defendant, a mother of two, has 10 previous convictions.
Judge Mary Devins said: “They do not have the right to steal from innocent members of society.” The judge convicted and fined Ann McDonagh €1,000 and sentenced her to six months in prison, with the final three suspended for 12 months. Tina McDonagh was convicted and fined €1,000 and sentenced to nine months in prison, with the final three suspended for 12 months.
