Labour Party councillor Harry Barrett withdrew his motion at Tuesday night’s Castlebar Town Council meeting calling for the new pedestrian bridge at Lough Lang to be named after Johnny Mee for his outstanding service to the town.
Cllr Barrett told the meeting that he had spoken to former councillor Mee during the week who had asked him to withdraw the motion as Mr Mee believed it would be unfair to be singled out for all the good works that had been done by people in the town by both elected members of the public and council staff over the years.
