A proposal was put forward at the Cultural, Education, Heritage and Corporate Affairs SPC this week that Mayo people who took part in a 1940s school research project should once again take part in a study which would record the latter half of the century.
County librarian, Austin Vaughan explained that the original study took place nationwide in 1937/38 where 100,000 children in 5,000 schools collected half a million pages of data.
SPC member, PJ Lynn, who put forward the idea said that it would be interesting to record the rest of the years of those who took part in the original study.
Chair of the SPC, Councillor Al McDonnell said that it was a “very innovative idea” and said that it should be put on the next agenda.
