Sinn Féin councillor Thérèse Ruane has welcomed the recent works at Glenfort Housing Estate. Describing these developments as “very positive” and “not before time”, she has complimented the council, the residents committee and the developer for working together to bring about these long promised works to make the estate a safer and better environment for residents.
Cllr Ruane, a resident of Glenfort said: “Glenfort has been in a bad state of disrepair and a health hazard for many years. It's really positive but not before time that the recent works having been carried out. Works include; the removal of dangerous trees and unsuitable overgrown vegetation; clearing away of scrub and seeding a green play area for children; erecting a fence around parts of the estate, replacing damaged footpaths and kerbs.”
The Sinn Féin Cllr added, “I will continue to campaign until the estates of Glenfort and Viewpoint have been taken in charge by Castlebar Town Council. I expect that this will take place in the very near future and a long campaign will finally come to an end. The issue of unfinished housing estates is a very contentious issue and I will continue working to ensure people are not left in a limbo situation, living in unfinished housing estates that haven't been taken in charge by the local authority.”
