Arts Centre receives major funding blow

The Linenhall, Mayo’s oldest arts centre, has just received a major blow with the news that its funding from the Arts Council has been cut by 20 per cent for this year alone. Overall, the funding has been cut by 38 per cent in the last five years.

But Linenhall director, Marie Farrell, is adamant that the Castlebar-based arts centre will continue to deliver the best quality arts service possible within its limited resources, continuing to bring the same level of commitment and enthusiasm that has made the Linenhall one of the most successful arts organisations in the country. That service includes a broad range of performance events and workshops for all ages, including a year-round schools workshop programme, top quality music and theatre events, a Bealtaine programme celebrating creativity in older age, and RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival, which has been running for 14 years.
