Homeowners have until the end of this coming Saturday, March 31, to pay the €100 charge, after which financial penalties apply on an increasing basis each month. As of Thursday, around 500,000 had registered for the charge, out of 1.6 million householders.
To assist in the collection of the Household Charge, 95 local authority offices are opening across the country on Saturday where homeowners will be able to pay their charge. In Mayo, payment can be made this Saturday in the Mayo County Council Offices and area offices in Claremorris, Ballina, Belmullet, Swinford, Westport. These offices will be open from 10am to 3pm.
All owners of residential property in Ireland are liable for the household charge on each residential property they own, as from January 1 2012. This includes those properties that are liable for the €200 charge on non-principal private residences. Owners of Irish residential properties who live outside Ireland are also required to register for and pay the household charge.
The household charge bureau will remain open on Saturday from 9am until 8.30pm to deal with queries. Its LoCall number is 1890 357357.
