Walk in My Shoes launched to support mental health

Walk in My Shoes was launched by St Patrick’s Hospital Foundation and aims to raise much needed funds to support young adults, 18 to 25 years of age in Ireland, in need of mental health services.

The name Walk in My Shoes originated from a young service user at St Patrick’s University Hospital who said he wished his ‘friends could ‘walk in my shoes’ so they would understand’ his mental illness.

Walk in My Shoes calls on people all over Ireland to wear unusual or mismatched shoes on April 26 and donate €2 toward providing mental health services for young adults who need them. Go to www.walkinmyshoes.ie Mary Connellan, co-ordinator of the young adult programme at St Patrick’s University Hospital says: “Seventy five per cent of all mental health difficulties begin before 24 years of age. If left untreated, mental illness can have a major impact on personal development, education, work and physical health. Early intervention can give people real hope of returning to a normal life.”
