Ballina resident Sinead McCoole is among some of the country’s leading academics and authors to feature in an advisory group established last week to assist with centenary commemorations of the 1912-16 period of Irish history.
The 1916 advisory group will inform the development and delivery of the commemorative programme, culminating in the centenary of the 1916 Rising. Ms McCoole is the only Mayo member.
A historian and author, Ms McCoole’s area of expertise is in modern Irish history (1900-1923 ). She is currently the curator/manager of Mayo County Council’s Jackie Clarke Collection in Ballina which will open permanently later this year exhibiting a collection of artefacts relating to the period of the 1916 Rising.
